Abstract

The rise of the gig economy, characterized by on-demand, freelance, and short-term work arrangements, has fundamentally reshaped the landscape of employment. This scholarly article delves into the complexities of this burgeoning phenomenon, examining its impact on labor market dynamics, worker experiences, and the future of work. Drawing on theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence, the article analyzes the opportunities and challenges presented by the gig economy, including increased flexibility, income volatility, lack of social protection, and the blurring of traditional worker-employer relationships. Ultimately, the article argues for a nuanced understanding of the gig economy, advocating for policy interventions and regulatory frameworks that address its potential drawbacks while harnessing its potential for flexibility and innovation in the evolving world of work.
